0022 — TOI 700 e: A New Earth-sized Exoplanet Discovered

Listen Later

NASA's TESS mission has discovered a new exoplanet, named TOI 700 e, that is 95% the size of Earth and orbits a small, cool M dwarf star about 100 light-years away. This is the fourth planet to be detected in the system and is considered a rocky exoplanet.

A NASA mission on a quest,
To explore the cosmos and put to test
The theories and predictions we hold,
And stories of planets that yet to be told.
With TESS, they scanned the night sky,
In search of exoplanets that may lie
In the habitable zone, where life could thrive,
And the discoveries came in waves and strive.
One such world was TOI 700 e,
An Earth-size exoplanet, as you'll see
Orbiting a small, cool M dwarf star,
With a rocky surface, not too far.
It's the fourth planet to be found,
In the TOI 700 system that surrounds
The small star, and as they say,
It's 95% the size of Earth today.
The discovery is quite a feat,
A new world for us to meet,
Though it's 100 light-years away,
It's now within our reach today.
So let us ponder and imagine,
What secrets this new world holds,
And how its story will unfold,
As we continue to explore the vast unknown.
