Listen Later

In this thought-provoking episode of The Social Express, we dive into a powerful conversation around identity, culture, and the evolution of language. We introduce the idea of reintroducing the term "Afro-American," not as a relic of the past, but as a revitalized identity for multigenerational Black Americans, particularly the descendants of slavery who have shaped and been shaped by the Black American experience.

We also explore how this term could create space for communities often caught in-between: Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Latin, Afro-Asian, and other diasporic identities whose families have been in the U.S. for generations and who deeply relate to Black American culture, struggles, and expression because their direct ties to their roots have faded.

It’s a conversation about cultural grounding, collective history, and the need for new language that honors both the complexity and commonality within the Black experience in America. Let’s talk about who we are, where we’ve been, and where we go from here.
