003 - The 70 Weeks of Daniel

  • First thing: Daniel gets this prophecy while he is in Babylon. Why are the Jews conquered and sent to Babylon?
    • Sabbatical reason (7th year sabbaths). The Lord had told them that every 7th year, they were supposed to let the land rest. The Jews never kept that 7th year sabbath. (Leviticus 25:1-7, Leviticus 26:32-35, Jeremiah 25:4-11)
    • After the Jews have been in Babylon for about 70 years, what happens? Daniel prays, and the angel Gabriel visits Daniel, giving him the prophecy, and the skill to understand it. (Daniel 9:20-27)

      • - To finish the transgression – banishment to Babylon for not observing the 7thyear sabbaths

      - To make an end of sins – After the millennial kingdom
      - To make reconciliation for iniquity – Death of Jesus
      - And to anoint the Most Holy – Somehow associated with Jesus.. Don’t know how. Possibly when he takes the authority of the Messiah.
      - restore and build Jerusalem – Nehemiah: built the temple, Ezra built the walls


      69 weeks calculation

          1. Artaxerxes gave the command to restore the temple on 14 March 445 BC

         2. Things to remember
             1. 1 BC to 1 AD is one year. There is no year zero
             2. 476 years x 365 days per years = 173,740 days
             3. Add for leap years = 116 days
             4. March fourteenth to April sixth = 24 days
             5. Total 173,880 days!
         3. On 6 Apr 32 AD, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, ending the 69 weeks.
