Whether you are aware of it or not - you are being influenced by some form of media at all times. Even reading this right now - you are being persuaded to think in a specific way. Namely, that traditional media outlets (from both sides) do not have your best interest at heart. Their primary mission objective? Ratings and advertising. The longer you are paralyzed with fear, the longer you will sit and watch their programming.

So what can we do? First step is understanding the 'media machine' for what it is and then developing a strategy to keep yourself as well rounded and informed as possible.
