Today, we learn if we are fit to run or not!
Today’s guest is Cory Smith, who resides in Santa Barbara, CA. He holds a personal best of 4:03 in the mile and is a former 2-Time NCAA Division 1 National Championships Qualifier. He is the owner and head coach of RunYourPersonalBest, an online running coaching site dedicated to helping runners of a stripes hit their next round of goals for their running practice.
Cory is not only a decorated runner in his own right, he’s a wealth of knowledge on the topic. He’s a contributing writer for Philadelphia Magazine’s Be Well Philly, a featured product review and reporter with Gear Institute, not to mention his own blog. Here’s a great post he recently put up that is very “new-guy” friendly for those of us not hailing from the runner world.
Cory and I delve into the details of why people take up the sport/hobby of running. What shoes are best for beginner vs. advanced runners. People looking to set a goal of running for an event and whether that event is a traditional 5k/marathon type race or a more broad focused event like a Tough Mudder. This episode is a great compliment to last week’s interview with Monica Beeman, where we discussed the process of getting into another difficult sport, body building.
We really hit a bunch of points that I found fascinating! This is a conversation that I’ve been wanting to have for sometime, because Cory, aside from his many accolades as an athlete and coach, happens to be my wife, Carrie’s, cousin. If you have just started listening to the Small Moves Podcast, she was interview subject one on this show. You can find that show here. I hope you enjoy the show. Below are a bunch of links to the things we talked about in the show. Feel free to click away, but also remember to click subscribe on your podcast player of choice so that you get to hear all the other episodes that are coming out soon. Thanks again for listening. I really appreciate you!
Best,
Jason
