When the Japanese mend broken objects, the aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe that an object's cracks, or scars, give the object its history and its character, making it even more beautiful. 

In many ways, we are like cracked pottery, some with physical and some with emotional cracks or scars. When we are broken, God mends us, comforts us and strengthens us, making us even more beautiful.
