Hello and welcome to Episode 6 of the Have You Ever Wondered What Happened podcast.
DDT, (Dichloro-diphenyl-trichloro-ethane) once so highly promoted, now, banned except when sprayed in one of the last places you’d ever expect!
In this episode we get in to part 2 of a 2 part series about DDT we get in to the justification for where it is allowed to be sprayed and my thoughts about the decision process for the choices made in such a conundrum.
Who makes the choice? What conclusions did the really smart people come to? Where they in opposition?
Dr. Anarfi Asamoa-Baah of the World Health Organization (WHO) and Professor Bontle Mbongwe, an associate professor of Environmental health and Toxicology at the University of Botswana weigh in on this very difficult subject.
Details of the actual effects that DDT has on the voltage-gated sodium channels in the nervous system and adaptation of the insects of concern. What effects does DDT have on humans and other animals in the environment?
My perspective on DDT and whether or not the research that I’ve done for this episode has affected that perspective.
What viable alternatives are there?
How do they handle the mosquito issue in Disney World and are there lessons to be learned for sub-Saharan Africa?
What is indoor residual spraying of DDT and is it a good or a bad thing?
I’ll share the short version as applicable to this story, of my trip to Colombia South America to help build a home with my church group and an amazing organization called Dwellings Now.
Have you ever wondered?
