Lester Rector - Discipleship Series Part 1
What is discipleship and why does it matter?
We can look for greater development in our ministry but God wants greater development in us.
God is a very personal God.
God always approaches things from a father/son, father/daughter perspective.

Ministry is something that is learned.  God wants more than your ministry...He wants to be personal with us.

He wants to strip our confidence in our ministry, abilities, and opportunities.  We need to place our confidence in Him.

Our perspective is different that God's.  God wants us to see things from His point of view.

Matthew 3:17
He defined the relationship first.

2 Things that people tend to question about their Christian walk
I'm really not sure where I am in my relationship with God
I'm really not sure how He feels about me

In a face to face conversation, there's no place to hide.
In a tech-driven society, most would rather text than have a face to face conversation.  Over time, that will naturally flow into our relationship with God if we aren't careful. We need to have "real" conversations with God.
90% of people cannot give you 1 point from a sermon one day later!
Many problems in our music ministry have nothing to do with music.  Fixing music is the easy part.  Our people need discipleship.

2 types of honesty -
1. Honesty from your point of view
2. Honesty from God's point of view
What we see tends to control our emotions and what we feel.  There is another place that God wants to take us.

Discipleship is "revealing what is really in us so that we can begin to see ourselves from His point of view and see our lives from His point of view."

When you understand where you are, then you can get a feel for where God wants you to be.
