Adelaide Hawkins. Jane Wallis Burrell. Elizabeth Sudmeir. Mary Folse Hutchinson. Eloise Page. Five women who helped shape the Central Intelligence Agency in its early years. But before their work at the CIA, they had other careers in government service. There was the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). There was the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES).  There was the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC).  All three organizations played integral roles in gathering intelligence during World War II.  It was with these organizations that these five women would begin their careers in intelligence and covert operations. Then, in the first few months of the CIA, tragedy would befall one of these women.
