Fear of judgement is a topic that comes up all the time with my clients. I also have the same fear. Because guess what? Nobody is immune to it. πββοΈ
Humans are innately judgemental. That's why we are hyper-aware that other people are constantly judging us.
When do we usually feel the fear of judgement?
π When we want to do something out of the ordinary
π When we want to step outside of our comfort zone
π When we worry about failure or rejection and that success is not definite
Surprisingly (or not), we are most afraid that the people we know very well will judge us.
You see, I never had an issue performing in front of a large crowd. But if I get a text before my performance that says, 'Iβm in at the show tonight, canβt wait to see it!' I will be constantly aware of that one person I know in the audience.
I think it's like that for everyone.
When we think of doing something big, we think about that one person saying, 'Who do you think you are?' in one way or the other. And itβs often enough to hold us back.
It can be true. There might be one person who's saying shit about you, wondering who the hell do you think you are.
This makes me think of a pot of boiling crabs. If one crab tries to get out of the pot, the others will put it back in.
But what if I tell you that you are also holding yourself back?
We over-identify with the possibility that someone is judging us. But they might not be. And even if they were, that has nothing to do with us.
So, how you can let go of the fear of judgement?
β¨ NEVER TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY
According to 'The Four Agreements' by Don Miguel Ruiz, one of the rules to live happily is to never take anything personally. Nothing is ever personal.
Even if that person is telling you straight that it's personal β it never is.
β¨ IT'S ALL JUST PROJECTION
Here's why it's never personal: The judgement says more about where that person is in his life. It has nothing to do with us.
When we think that way, it takes a little bit of the sting out of whatever we are worrying about the other person. There's no need to let our fear of what other people think have the power to hold us back.
Remember: Confidence + Faith = Success. π
