In this episode I sit down and speak to Ross Gilmour who is the co-founder of Better Body Collective in Dubai. They are a team of fitness and nutrition specialists that help people transform their bodies, optimise health and maximise living. What I really like about their approach is that it is tailor made according to the individual. Now you’ve probably heard that before. But it’s a lot more than one person wanting to gain muscle or another wanting to lose weight. They look at the lifestyle of the individual and the habits of this person and whether those habits enable them to successfully complete the programme. They also look at aspects like sleep and stress. If you’re a regular listener, you will know I have spoken about the importance of these in any balanced healthy lifestyle. Finally everything they do is backed by science. They will consider the facts when it comes to what approach works best. If a client a vegan then they will think about what the science says about living a healthy life omitting animal products from your diet (making sure the individual supplements with B12, vitamin D and considers a good omega 3 source), if someone doesn’t eat dairy then again they will consider the scientifically proven alternatives to being healthy.
The reason I was so keen to interview Ross is that in my time working in the fitness industry, the most dedicated individuals when it comes to nutrition were those comporting in bodybuilding, physique or other similar discipline. Whilst many of us struggle to find our way with our health journeys, this group of people know what really works and what it really takes. So when it comes to nutrition myths, these guys have heard them all and they know a red herring when they see one.
Ross talks about the following nutrition myths on this episode:
