October is my absolute favorite month of the year! It has Halloween, which my favorite holiday! No family involvement, just fun costumes, parties and a good time all month long. That's why I got married in October. So, today, on October 1st... you will always find me at my favorite coffee house having my first Pumpkin Spiced Latte of the year. Yum....
October is also CyberSecurity Awareness Month... and we are kicking off the month with a dive into cyberbullying.
Today we are sitting with Patrick Craven, Director of Center for Cyber Safety and Education. We are discussing the real effects of cyberbullying and the real life tactics parents and trusted adults can use to protect the little ones in their lives.
Patrick explains that bullying has morphed since we were all kids... bullies don't have to be brave anymore and take you on eyeball to eyeball or toe to toe. No... they now can hide behind the safety of their devices and attack with full force. And they multiply quickly... hear how easy it is for kids to go from a few to hundreds or even thousands picking on your child... when you thought he was just in his room checking on homework after dinner.
This is serious stuff. Fortunately, Patrick has real advice to share with teachers and parents - not just on how to protect your kids - but what to do if and WHEN they actually get bullied or cyberstalked.
