Ezekiel: Prophecies of Destruction and Hope

Part 9: The Good Shepherd

Based on Ezekiel chapter 34

After Jerusalem fell, the people were left asking a painful question: how did everything go so wrong?

In this episode, Ezekiel delivers God’s answer. The leaders of Israel—the “shepherds” of the nation—had failed. Instead of caring for the weak, they used their power to help themselves. Instead of protecting the flock, they let the sheep scatter.

But Ezekiel 34 is not only a chapter of judgment. It is also one of the most comforting promises in the book.

God says that He Himself will search for His sheep.

He will gather the scattered.

He will bind up the injured.

He will strengthen the weak.

And He promises a future shepherd from the line of David—a faithful ruler who will care for His people the way human leaders never could.

This episode helps kids hear one of the Bible’s big repeated pictures: shepherds are not just people who watch sheep. In Scripture, shepherds often represent kings and leaders. And through Ezekiel, God is showing His people what a true king is supposed to be.

In this episode, kids will hear:

• why God judged the selfish “shepherds” of Israel

• how kings and leaders are often pictured as shepherds in the Bible

• why the exile was not the end of Israel’s story

• how God’s promise points forward to a faithful shepherd-king

This is Part 9 of Ezekiel: Prophecies of Destruction and Hope, a storytelling series for kids and families that brings Bible passages to life while helping listeners notice the patterns, symbols, and repeated ideas the Bible expects us to see.
