You feel sore after a workout for 3 reasons...
1) Doing a workout or exercise which is new or unfamiliar to your muscles.
2) The workout you did was more intense than what you're used to doing
3) Certain exercises create more muscle damage.
And you don't necessarily have to be sore after every workout, in fact the more experienced you get you should rarely ever be sore!
So just because you're not sore after a workout doesn't mean you haven't worked hard enough. And just because you're sore after a workout doesn't mean you've made more progress. Don't chase soreness!.
