🔥[01-08] The assertive shift that gets gatekeepers to actually respond

Jill Calhoun: I have 3 projects that I know about that are coming up, and I started writing the outreach, sent the emails, but I've gotten no reply. I'd like to talk about the one that makes the most sense, which is the executive and creative producer I literally just wrapped off of a movie with.

  • Replace binary outreach with conversation starters that invite response even when they are not actively hiring.
  • It absolutely matters what you say, but it doesn't guarantee you're gonna get the opportunities.
  • Be confident and start asserting why you are useful to this specific project right now.
  • Make the other person the hero of the story and frame your experience as potential solutions to their problems. Then ask if those solutions are valuable to them.
  • Do not assume what they need. Show what you believe is relevant and explicitly ask if it helps or if a quick catch-up makes sense.
  • Always end with a question to leave them with an open loop of what you want to talk about next or what you need them to respond to.
