Qiqi Wu: I am having an interview on Tue the 13th, in the afternoon. I want to know what else I can do before that and what mindset I should have for my interview.
- The basic foundation of a job interview should answer both questions: “Is this the right fit for me?” and “Am I the right fit for them?”
- Treat the interview as an exploratory conversation focused on understanding the project, their needs, and where you can genuinely be most valuable as both an assistant editor and a bilingual collaborator.
- Ask direct questions about language, workflow, responsibilities, and challenges to clarify whether the project is English, Chinese, or a hybrid and how your skills truly apply.
- Run your race and set yourself apart by focusing on their needs where you can be helpful.
- Be honest about strengths and gaps, knowing transparency builds trust, creates better alignment, and can open unexpected opportunities to learn and grow on the job.
- Separate self worth from the outcome by focusing on fit, qualifications, timing, and needs rather than whether getting hired validates your value.
- Define your own non negotiables around pay, hours, duration, growth, and opportunity cost so you can assess whether the role supports your long term goals.
