Ted Husband: I’d love your help figuring out the best way to reach out to a producer - I cut the teaser for their web series, and I’d like to be considered to edit the series.
- Lead with value by sharing how working on the project previously has been valuable to you (and to them), focusing on the impact that it provides.Â
- Tapping on their “why,” can get you so much further than any links, skills or experience.
- Be more explicit on framing the story about them, using this framework:Â
- “Given these are your goals, and these might be some of the obstacles, let me tell you more about these relevant skills or experiences that I have, and how they can help you with this next project.”
- Replace implied interest with a clear, confident ask that invites a next step and makes it easy to say yes to a conversation.
- Follow up politely, patiently, and persistently by adding new value, deepening understanding of their slate, and aligning timing with their hiring timeline.
