You Might Hate This Book

01. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

Listen Later

This week, Hannah and Stephanie discuss Never Let Me Go by Kazou Ishiguro, a book Hannah loves. Will Stephanie hate it?

Ishiguro’s novel follows the friendship and heartaches of Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy. They grow up together at Hailsham, a seemingly idyllic boarding school in the English countryside. However, their futures are not entirely in their hands, and they must come to terms with their reality before it's too late. Through this novel (which was the inspiration for this podcast), Hannah and Stephanie discuss how where a person is at in life can affect how she reads a book, and that the way a book is marketed and discussed (even if it differs from the author’s intent) can color a reader’s judgment and enjoyment.
