011: Conditioning - Can we choose to decondition?

Listen Later

This episode is riveting. It will inspire you to take mental notes of the conditionings around you. We are all conditioned and there are various theories about conditioning and how it affects human behavior. If seeing a puppy makes us happy, then we are positively conditioned about puppies. If we think going to a movie alone is weird, maybe we are not so positively conditioned about hanging out alone. How do we identify these positive and negative conditioning? And why would anyone try to identify or question any conditioned behavior if it benefits them but may hurt others? In some cases, it neither harms nor helps them. For example, a priest who doesn't allow different cast systems to enter a temple, men who require women to wear specific attire, a race that benefits from being in power without sharing it with minorities; why would any of these privileged groups or individuals ever pause and rethink their conditioned behaviors? Sometimes, the impact of inaction is more significant than action.
