Bad Trip

011 — Pennsylvania Pt. 1 | The St. Patrick's Day Floods of 1936

Listen Later

Hold on to your scrapple because this week, we’re heading to Pennsylvania, the land of goofy mascots and snot otters. First, Shauna gives us an overview of the state, introducing us to Pennsylvania Dutch culture and some questionable cuisine you won’t find anywhere else. (Seimaage, anyone?)

Then, Taylor tells us about Pittsburgh’s deadly St. Patrick’s Day Floods of 1936. A brutal winter followed by a sudden warm spell led to floods that caused mass death, property damage, and dudes in canoes floating down the city streets. This one’s a doozy, but on a brighter note, we find someone to blame: the government, as per usual.
