012 - Healthy or Irrational: What's Your Fear Factor?

Debilitating. Powerless. Unsure. Second guessing. Afraid. There is a line from the movie “Dune” where the lead character is reminded over and over again that “fear is the mind killer” and that has rang true for many in the divorce process. Let’s talk about the bogeyman of fear. 

Irrational fear -

  1. Sneaks up on you all the time without warning or catalyst.
  2. You can’t figure out why you are afraid, you just are.
  3. What you fear hasn’t happened yet.
  4. What you fear may not be in danger of happening at all.
  5. You are caught up in the emotion and not the solution

    6. Healthy fear -

    1. Fear that is not unexpected because of the situation.
    2. Fear that has a source and a perceived outcome.
    3. The source or situation is one that you know is coming and you just don't know how to prepare for yet.
    4. Something about the people involved or the situation itself requires you to engage all of your senses, and being afraid is one of the senses that you engage with.
    5. Healthy fear looks for a solution to the problem because it doesn't last, healthy fear allows you clarity of thought and purpose and provides you with a way out of being afraid.
