With FEDNOW’s birth and CBDC on the near horizon, if Bitcoin is prevented from quickly implementing a permissionless, widely-adopted, and therefore unstoppable medium of exchange (MOEx) functionality, it risks decisive cyberspace isolation. Ultimately, store of value (SOV) quality is inseparably linked to utility: items of value at some point must be useable. If the State, through a number of stratagems, is able to functionally quarantine Bitcoin in cyberspace, Bitcoin will lose the monetary war even as victory seemed within reach. This is phase III of the Bitcoin insurgency.
