"But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified."
Paul uses the analogy of running a race to provide insight into how he views disciplining his body, subjecting it to the will of God
rather than his own flesh, and as such, win the 'crown of life.'
Beginning by knowing God's Word first gives the believer the opportunity to be self controlled in their life. Discipline over ones
body isn't always the easiest thing to do. And, the older we become, the more difficult it is to accomplish.
As our flesh desires greater than our will, it is best if we can interrupt the flesh early in life, and hopefully have an easier time
of self control.
