RESTRUCTURE YOUR LIFE PODCAST

014 Not your year this? Time to plan ahead!

Listen Later

If you live on the part of the world where people follow the Gregorian calendar system, the end of the year, popularly tagged “the festive season”, is usually a highly anticipated and most eventful period in modern life. This is because it provides a much-needed break from all forms of productive work that commenced earlier, and non-stop, since the beginning of the year. People use this period to enjoy the fruits of their labour, or just for relaxation, by engaging in several activities like shopping errands, visits to places of interest, get togethers of sorts, and many more other acts depending on the culture of people where you are.

I remember once upon a time, during my earlier days as a toddler, how as kids we used to look forward to both Christmas and New Year days with an elephant-size anticipation, because it was the only times we usually got pampered with sweets, cool-aid, and new clothes. You can imagine the excitement even after a year long wait, and for us kids it was the best time ever of the year. Needless to say, decades on, and with much development, as well kids being able to get anything they desire anytime of the year, there seems to be a lot more suffering in society. The “festive season” for most isn’t much fun, given the escalating costs of living, which in the current year is worsened by situations of disease, famine, and war in some parts of the world, and possibly many other causes.

If despite working ever hard this year, to make life happen for you, it has only been a case of “the tough gets going”, and there’s little or nothing to celebrate this festive season, don’t despair but seek to make changes for better in the future. As the wise from yesteryear observed, “Rome was not built in a day”, and hence your success too will come into fruition not today but in the future.

The end of the year is not only good for festivities but is equally a great period to review your past and self-appraise, so you can determine what worked and what didn’t. Taking a moment to self-appraise will allow you time to consider possible interventions, tweaks, and pivots, before the next year begins, so you can do things differently and successfully going forward, to have something you can truly celebrate by the end of the next year.

Do you somehow feel like this has not been your year, like, there’s been no bumper harvest to warrant any celebrations, and you would rather have the next year begin sooner than later? Don’t let this give you any feelings of frustrations, hopelessness, or despair, and neither should you get infuriated by the excitement of others, who probably made better use of opportunities coming their way. For you it’s a call to action, like, use the moment to plan ahead, for the coming year. If you’re seriously in the mood to influence a better life experience in the next year, and going forward in life, then the next Episode 14 of the Restructure Your Life Podcast has some insightful take home for you to consider.
