This session of Hedge School History

gives us the first part of the 17th century, to

be followed by two more episodes on the

turbulent and violent 1600's in Ireland.

Today we look at the Battle of Kinsale which

begins the century, along with the Flight of

the Earls and the beginnings of the Plantation

of Ulster. The departure of O'Neill and O'Donnell

marks a low point for the Irish culture.
