What the Hell is Up

018: Pride, protest, and Black Lives Matter feat. Taylor Conley

Listen Later

In this episode, I harken back to my experience at Seattle LGBTQ Pride in 2019, which was a peaceful celebration for my friends and I (as well as a space completely inundated with capitalism’s monetization of the LGBTQ rainbow). I discuss the historical origins of Pride, mentioning the beautiful and legendary Marsha P. Johnson, and communicate the continued need to protest injustice especially during this current Black Lives Matter movement. I also interview Taylor Conley, a film student and fellow Lex user who discusses her experience as a black, lesbian, cis woman navigating art and an industry that wasn’t created for her. Let this episode inspire thoughtfulness and action to stand up for the lives of the oppressed, listen to voices other than our own, and fight racism and injustice.
Blessings and hygge,
Claire
