This is the account of David's return after the defeat of Absalom's rebellion. It begins with a subordinate (Joab) giving his superior (King David) an ultimatum and direct order! David responds by giving Joab's command to the treasonous Amasa! And that sets up a clash for the next chapter. We also see peaceful, gracious response (temporarily) of David toward Shimei, the reconciliation with Mephibosheth and David's mercy toward Ziba who LIED about Mephibosheth.
