This is an amazing recipe that pulls together the natural sweetness of the tomato and buttery cheesy stretchy saltiness of a perfect the grilled cheese. When you dip the crunchy sandwich into the tomato soup … you’ll wish you made a second sandwich.

We both discuss sending our kids off to school and MH tries the ‘OG’ Ramen Burger. We discuss Dunkin’ Donuts changing its name, a Tattoo Domino’s Pizza food promotion overseas, a fishmonger using googly eyes to fake freshness in fish, and of course a Buzzfeed Quiz to determine our percentile breakdown of introvert to extrovert. This week’s grocery list:

Grilled Cheese

  • 2  slices bread, either soft sandwich squares or large peasant-style slices, not more than 1/2 inch thick
  • Butter
  • Mayonnaise
  • 1 to 2  ounces grated cheddar (or other cheese), depending on size of bread

Tomato Soup

  • 2 1/2 pounds fresh tomatoes (mix of fresh heirlooms, cherry, vine and plum tomatoes)
  • 6 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 2 small yellow onions, sliced
  • Vine cherry tomatoes for garnish, optional
  • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 quart chicken stock
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil leaves, optional
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream, optional
