Melanie Annan: I would like to share my attention map for one ideal week with the hopes to manage my attention/energy and emotions before I can start to manage my time.
- Break down attention mapping into 3 levels:
- 30,000 ft. overview - Define the four plates that are the most important domains of your life, that if 1 dropped, everything else falls apart.
- 10,000 ft. overview - Categorize each plate with general items under it
- Boots on the ground - List the specific activity or action that you’re doing
- Create four calendars in four different colors that are named after your four plates and block every hour of your week based on those four.
- Build multiple maps for different seasons. Freelance week and full time week are different stories. Revisit and iterate instead of chasing one perfect calendar.
- Stop catching a case of the “shoulds.” Design the story of your week so it flows and makes sense for you, not the version you think you are supposed to live.
