Mark Mangune is a former (volunteer) Liaison & Recruitment Officer for the Philippine Football Federation. He had over 700 prospects throughout North America and about 67 of them have now been capped for the youth and senior WNT. Some of his notable finds if you will were - Jesse Shugg, Marisa Park, Joana Houplin-Michaelson, Raylene Larot, Alexa Diaz, and Hanna Parado. 5 of the players he scouted were part of the Asian Cup team that qualified for the World Cup namely, Hali Long, Jessica Miclat, Sofia Harrison, Tara Shelton and Kiara Fontanilla. His scouting work was crucial as these players bolster both the youth and national team since 2012. We talked about how he got involved through Coach Ernie Nierras, his partnership with Butchie Impelido and scouting for players for the National Team; a journey that started with the ID camp in 2012 although the team already had Filipino Heritage players prior. He also shared the soccer system in the US and how that has benefitted us in some ways.
I've known Mark since 2013, let's just say that he also recruited me. He made me an admin of the now official PWNT Facebook and Twitter pages which back then were just fan pages. I worked with him and Mia to promote the team on social media when we had almost zero media coverage and none of the games was streamed at all. I invited him on so he can talk about the great work that he did for the team and other unsung heroes that we almost never heard about - Butchie Impelido, Trey Scharlin, Ralph Balin and Clint McDaniel, among others.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE - If you're a Filipino heritage player (or a parent of), please get in touch directly with the Philippine Football Federation for tryouts and other important playing information.
