As the drummer and co-founder of the two-time Grammy-winning jazz ensemble Ranky Tanky (a Gullah phrase for “get funky”), Baxter discusses how the group fused jazz music with the traditions of South Carolina’s Gullah region to develop a sound that has been described as “soulful honey to the ears."
