THE TRUTH IN LOVE

This week Sandy and Elisabeth dig deeper into the topic of speaking the truth in love.

GOD IS LOVE

1 JOHN 4:16b God is love. Those who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

This is a concept that Christians are pretty comfortable with but how often do we really think about what that means in the context of speaking the truth.

God is love. He is the originator of love, and it is an enduring attribute of His nature.

LOVE IS A COMMANDMENT

MARK 12:29-31 The Lord our God is the only one Lord. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all you mind and all your strength. The second command is this: Love you neighbor as you love yourself. There are no commands greater than these.

So when we say it's important to love. It's REALLY REALLY important.

LOVE COMES FROM GOD

1 JOHN 4:7 Love is from God; and everyone who loves others is born of God and knows God through personal experience.

We were created in His image; in the image of love. Do not forget that even those who are not believers were still created by God and they too love because He first loved them. The ultimate common ground between Christians and non-Christians is love. It is the one thing that connects all of creation.

SPEAK IN LOVE1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

CONCLUSION

Before you speak, and specifically before you speak the truth in "love". Use 1 Corinthians as a scale to weigh your words and your intention.

Always choose love. Love never fails.
