The Coming Out Chronicles

022: Coming Out again...now as Non-Binary with Dr. Erin Baker

Listen Later

Dr. Erin Baker shares about their coming out as Non-binary and recent transition to using They/Them pronouns publicly.  Erin loves living in the And, (The name of her podcast) and how she is now choosing to show up in the world... with using she/her AND they/them pronouns.  It can be an unsteadying roller coaster ride to share more of who you are with the world, especially when you have a lot of eyes watching you as a coach and social psychologist, but Erin has continued to lean into it with authenticity and grace, even when people aren't as accepting as they'd hope.

9:24 I Looked at my breasts and thought they were so alien.

18:00 I use she/her and They/them

28:11 If your discomfort of using a pronoun is so strong then your love of me is questionable.

29:30 Glennon Doyle quote: When given the option to disappoint others or yourself… disappoint others.

30:15 We’re afraid of complete and utter abandonment by everyone… but that’s just not going to happen.  Not by everyone.

31:00 What are you willing to loose?  We’re afraid to loose the people we gathered when we were not us.  By doing that we are not gathering the people that could be around us by being us.  The right people come.

34:10 What’s it been like for your wife on this journey?
