Listen Later

SHOW NOTES:
On today’s episode I want to talk about New Year’s Resolutions and why I no longer set them.
This time of year people are thinking about resolutions they are going to set
for this upcoming 2017 year.
– weight loss
– start exercising
– stop eating sugar
– income goals
– new job
According to a Forbes article, Only 8% of people achieve their New Year’s
Resolution.
That’s PATHETIC!
Here is why I don’t like New Year’s Resolutions and why I stopped setting them.
1. Temporary pump – Like a motivational seminar. You are excited in the moment
and set these exciting goals so you can have a great year.
That is short-sitedness. You should be thing long-term. Creating an
AMAZING LIFE! Something that is sustainable long-term.
Most people set these resolutions as like this is something you should do
each December to start the New Year off.
Your goals should be so important to you that you shouldn’t wait til New Years
To set them. You should be setting goals throughout the year or modifying
goals you have already set.
2. Most New Year’s Resolutions are just a statement someone makes
– There is now planning that goes into it.
– Usually something you just say to your family and friends.
I think New Year’s Resolutions are weak and have no life or energy to them.
What I Do Instead:
I try and take a long-term approach based on the Growth Mindset and set
targets along the way.
Let me explain. Most people set Goals. What happens with Goals?
Let me tell you a personal story.
I focus on what I want my life to be. How do I want to live my life?
I then focus on What I need to do to live that life style.
For example:
Health. I want to be healthy and fit for the rest of my life.
How am I going to achieve that?
I focus on a system to achieve that Outcome.
SYSTEM: Eat lean meats, vegetables, some fruits, little bit
of starch and NO SUGAR.
Now if I follow that system I should be able to achieve my outcome.
Now I can set Targets along the way, but that can add stress to what I am
trying to do. Remember I am looking long-term…the rest of my life.
A Goal to achieve a certain weight just
1. Reminds me that I don’t have my goal yet
2. Probably stresses me because I am not where I want to be.
3. Sets a weight that may not be the best for me. I may look and feel better
at a higher or lower weight than the goal weight i set for myself
But, if I follow my system that I put in place with my daily habits and
routines, I can achieve my lifetime outcome.
So think if you want to continue to set goals and New Year’s Resolutions or
do you want to write down your Life Long Outcomes and implement systems to
help you achieve those outcomes?
I wish you a brilliant life!
