for seal pups born on britain's beaches winter can be a pretty chilly way to start in life

and this year storms have made it even harder

Otis went along to meet some pups who needed a little bit of extra help

back in September when she was just 6 days old

this seal was rescued after becoming separated from her mum

rescue charities up and down the UK say that they've been helping loads more seals than usual this winter

this winter the UK has already been hit by a few big storms

and that's when rescue teams get a call

Mike was part of the team who rescued Elvis

we got a call that someone had seen a pup at 11 o'clock in the morning

so we got over there just to check she's okay

deals need to feed every 4 hours from their moms

we don't know how long she'd been there

to lift off the beach and get her checked out

after getting help Elvis joined other rescue seals at Westhatch Wildlife Center in Taunton

and once at the rescue center seals like Elvis are well looked after

we've had a lot of storms this winter

it can vary on which coasts are the main causes for seals coming in care

for us a lot of them are for individuals who have either been swept off away from their mum

or that kind of stuff in really bad weather

or are just experiencing the sea and struggling because of the storms

it's time for the next step on their journey

they've coming off the beach October November time

they've been with us for a couple of months now

these guys get rescued in really dreadful states off the beach
