023 | A Message in the Sand: Angela Chambers' Story of God's Restorative Power After Divorce

Listen Later

Hey, friend!

In this deeply moving episode, I interview Angela Chambers, founder of Restored Ministries, who shares her powerful testimony of God's restoration after leaving a 28-year abusive marriage. Angela vulnerably opens up about her journey from being a pastor's kid who tried to "do everything right" to facing the devastation of separation, financial uncertainty, and church rejection.

Two months into her separation, during a quiet morning at the beach—her favorite place on earth—God gave Angela a divine encounter she'll never forget. As she collected beautiful, whole shells that had survived a recent storm, God spoke clearly: "These shells were in turbulence, but they made it to shore. You're going to make it. I will restore you." That beach revelation became the birthplace of Restored Ministries and Angela's calling to help others find hope in brokenness.

Angela shares the humbling seven years God had her clean houses (yes, seven years!), and the profound lessons He taught through moments like bathing an elderly client and being called "the maid" by her great-niece. Through tears and laughter, she reveals how God used these experiences to teach her obedience, rebuild her identity, and prepare her for ministry.

Key Takeaways:
  • God's "be still" command - Sometimes restoration requires us to not rush decisions, not defend ourselves, and simply trust God to fight our battles (Exodus 14:14)
  • Divine encounters change everything - God met Angela at the beach with shells as a tangible promise: "You will be restored, whole, unique, and beautiful"
  • Humility precedes honor - Seven years cleaning houses wasn't punishment but preparation—God was literally "making" (M-A-I-D) her in His image
  • Obedience in the ridiculous - Learning to hear and obey God's voice, even in seemingly absurd requests, prepares us for greater ministry
  • You're more than your circumstances - Labels like "divorced," "broken," or "failed" don't define us—we are more than conquerors through Christ
  • This episode offers hope and biblical encouragement for anyone walking through divorce, separation, abuse recovery, church hurt, or any season where restoration seems impossible. Angela's story proves that God specializes in restoration and that He sees you even when others don't.

May you be inspired to trust in the Lord's plan and witness His incredible restoration in your own life today, my friend.

    Always, Anna

      Buckets, mops, brooms and rags.

Laundry, dishes and trash by the bags.

Vacuums, dusting, soap scum and more.

Don’t forget to dust over the door.

Wash all the windows, reach high and bend low.

So much to do, so don’t be slow.

Scrub all the toilets, wash every tub.

Shine every mirror, use elbow grease, rub!

Change all the bed sheets, toss down the shoot.

Sweep under the bed, what I find is a hoot!!

Pick up all the toys and put them away.

Hurry, hurry, can’t stay here all day.

I had to chuckle when I read,

The text that came to me and said,

I need you to come and paint.

      I replied, LOL I can't!

My painting skills are none at all.

I don’t even paint my walls!

Lord, I thank you for my job each day,

For there are bills that I must pay.

But this!! This isn’t how I see myself,

Just a MAID, dusting a shelf.

See, I want to be in ministry.

You know, seeing others how you see.

Maybe a speaker or Children’s pastor or such.

But here I am, up to my elbows in muck!!

What’s that Lord, This is ministry?

      Helping others with their needs?

By dusting and mopping their dirty floors,

They have times for their families when they come through the door.

By helping bathe that one old soul,

For me that day, was your goal?

Going to the store to buy food for someone,

You knew she was sick and needed it done.

Helping with children, wiping their noses.

Rocking to sleep till the little one dozes.

Hanging up curtains made her room bright.

The others didn’t let in much light.

Taking one to the doctor to get a form signed.

You asked me to do it, because it was kind.

I remember the lady so feeble so sweet,

You whispered in my ear, Just wash my feet.

So doing these things, I’m becoming like You?

This is the job you want me to do?

Now I see as I continue this pilgrimage

I am being MAID in your Image!
