We discuss how limited technology resources in the classroom can be extremely frustrating. How the heck can you teach with one iPad in your classroom?
Though we wish that every teacher has a full cart of iPads, or Chromebooks in her/his classroom, the reality of small school budgets can be a huge obstacle. But, don’t let that stop you! You just have to think “outside of the box” a bit.
You have one iPad and 23 kids. Spotty wifi network. And no training. Sounds crazy. And it is! But, we think we have some great ideas for you that you can actually use now that will engage your students and wow their parents.
We share a few strategies and project ideas that can help your students be engaged and develop their skills with only one iPad in you classroom. In most cases, you will just need one app. But sometimes, you will need to teach your students to use two or even three apps to complete a project. The first thing to consider is where can you integrate tech in your curriculum. Keep it small and simple. If you aren’t comfortable using more than one app, that is fine.
The key to truly use your devices is to have the goal in mind. Think of having your students, and we really mean your students, take ownership and be accountable with the process of creating multimedia projects.
Document the learning and share with your school community. Use your own smartphone’s camera (or digital camera) and email the pictures to yourself so you can access them and upload them to your classroom blog and professional digital portfolio/website.
