So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of

great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.

There is a judgment coming on the nation of Israel warned by the prophet Joel. He puts this verse we look at today right in the

middle of two distinct calls for a corporate gathering of the people.

I view todays verse as an individual call, one spoken directly to each person for true brokenness before God first as an

individual and then as a people.

And while there is no formula for getting God to do mans will, there is a pattern found throughout Scripture where God will

hear the individual and corporate cries for mercy.
