On April 20, 2010, the Macondo well experienced a catastrophic blowout, resulting in the tragic loss of 11 lives and igniting a disaster that would sink the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig and unleash over 4 million barrels of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico. In response, President Barack Obama established a seven-member Commission tasked with investigating the disaster, examining its causes and impacts, and recommending essential actions to mitigate future risks.
