#024: Count Your Blessings, Not Your Calories

Listen Later

Friends, an episode that Holly & I have been super, super excited about is finally here.
This week, we're chatting all about Thanksgiving and holiday feasting. We address: the fear of overeating on holidays that we've experienced in the past, diet talk leading up to/after Turkey Day, and the guilt we used to feel if we chose to indulge at the dessert table.  We bring up how it’s normal and common for people to have that feeling that they “need” to work out during the holidays, and how you do not actually have to work out at all if you just don’t feel like it. We also discuss: what we plan (& don’t plan ;-) ) to do on this year’s Thanksgiving morning, family inspired-pressures to diet or compare one another’s plates during dinner, upsetting and discriminatory jokes about fat people during the holidays, and family members who may be trying to “get healthy” and/or “watch their weight”.
This is a great episode for anyone who’s learning or wanting to learn how to practice intuitive eating during the time of year when it can be the hardest to do that, what withall the constant pressures of diet culture circulating online and on Instagram .
Question answered this week:
How have you been able to analyze and confront your thoughts while transitioning to HAES and intuitive eating when you are presented with paleo/GF/restrictive/healthy-option choices? For example, I love IHOP’s harvest grain and nut pancakes and am struggling with figuring out if I truly love the taste and texture, or if I am residually “loving” them because they’re the “more restrictive” option when faced with a menu of not-so-restrictive choices.
