025 – Home Styling The Feels Off in Home Creation

Today, I talk about design and décor in home creation. This is the final episode in a multi-part series talking about the different things that can contribute to overwhelm in our homes and with our home creation.

In this episode, we look at how we can feel overwhelmed and frustrated when our home doesn’t quite reflect our personality, style, or needs. We explore why the style of our homes might feel off, how that contributes to overwhelm and what we can do about it.  I share practical tips for us to start creating a home that really fits who we are now.

Here’s a recap:

  1. When our homes feel off and don’t reflect our personality, style, or functional needs, it can lead to feelings of overwhelm and frustration.
  2. There are several reasons why our homes might not fit our style or function properly. Buying or inheriting furniture and decor that doesn't fit our personal style. Living in a rental or having a limited budget for personalization. Evolving personal tastes and changing family needs. And we can be influenced by trends that may not align with personal preferences.
  3. Our surroundings have a profound impact on our mental and emotional well-being. A home that doesn’t match our
    4. style or meet our functional needs can lead to increased stress and reduced productivity.
  4. The first steps in creating a home that feels right is understanding our personal style and figuring out the function of a particular space. We can understand our style through self-trust and with mood boards to discover our preferences. And understanding the needs in our spaces will help us design and decorate with function in mind.
  5. When we understand our style and the function of a space we can begin to make changes: start small, grow slowly and you do you. Small changes can have big impact. Start with decluttering, arrange the furniture for function and slowly add pieces and personal touches to create a space that really resonates.
