026: Managers Really Matter

Listen Later

A lot of people get disgusted with the word "management" and they would often argue one should always be a leader, not a manager. They always want to make this distinction between management and leadership – as if one were bad and the other was good.

And so, one of the largest mistakes within an organization is that people don't have someone who will manage anymore because they only want leaders. The fact is, we need both these two. We need great managers just as much as we need great leaders.

In today's episode, Nicky J. Davies joins us, along with our very own Dr. Stephen Crawford – two leaders and visionaries – as they discuss the core of leadership. And part of leadership is to recognize that managers matter just as much as leaders do.

Both Stephen and Nicky have extensive backgrounds in executive coaching and corporate training, each having served in the U.S. and around the world. Today's discussion is around helping leaders and mid-level managers become the best versions of themselves through inspired leadership.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • How can a manager juggle their competing priorities effectively?
  • Why we need both leaders and managers in an organization
  • The reason some people are disengaged and what you can do as a leader
  • Steps a leader can take to activate a person's full potential
  • Why motivation is a symptom and understanding a person's high-priority values
  • How to operate in balance – between disconnection and micromanagement
  • The biggest challenge managers have faced during with the impacts of COVID-19 and the opportunities we're seeing
  • How to avoid Zoom fatigue
  • The next best step for a manager to level up their leadership
