Description:
Welcome to Surviving Medicine, the podcast that takes you into the mind of the best and brightest premedical and medical students, residents and physicians discussing where Medical Education is today and the future of healthcare tomorrow.
Each week we bring you an inside look at how to survive medical education and how to thrive as a practicing physician balancing work, patients, family and friends.
Today we are excited to bring you an interview with Dr. Hassan Patail, Hassan is a current Pulmonary Critical Care fellow who went to medical school at St. George’s University and then did his internal medicine residency in NYC. Hassan is the husband of last week’s guest, Dr. Nabeela Patail and together they embody what it means to be young modern physicians. Dr. Patail has a true passion for helping people, smiling and giving back. He has been an advocate for finding joy in the workplace, breaking down the stigma of mental health issues in healthcare and an advocate for finding time to get away from medicine whether it be from spending time with friends/family to getting to the gym on your days off. In this interview, we dive deep discussing his role as an educator, why he chose medicine, why he chose to do pulmonary critical care, how he maintains a light spirit and joyful perspective even at critical moments in the ICU, why it is important to find hobbies outside of medicine, and why everyone should do some type of humanitarian work.
