On an October evening, Miami-Dade Police Officer Mario Gutierrez observed an individual attempting to set off a massive explosion by setting fire to the underground fuel tanks at a gas station next to Miami International Airport. The actions by Officer Gutierrez that night earned him the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor from the President of the United States.
