"We belong together", they sing at the end of Grease (1978). Do they now? It's kind of hard to imagine all these people spending the rest of their lives together in perfect bliss, in perpetuity. Even if you love this musical. Well, at least Danny (John Travolta) and Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) flew off in a car, so they are probably solid. Until part 2.

Someone who loves delving into this fifties style high school musical, is Tulya Kavaklioglu. As a kid, she performed songs from Grease on stage, dressed as one of the characters. Nowadays she's a theatre maker, director and actress with WOW-Effect Theatre, putting on English language plays in De Lindenberg in Nijmegen.

We talk, amongst other things, about the quest for oneself, high school bullying and relating to the character of Eugene. And also Rizzo. Somewhat.
