Melanie Annan: I want to go through my ideal calendar again since last week - with the goal of managing my attention, energy and emotions.
- Stop waiting for the perfect writing schedule. Build a simple system you can start immediately so you can fail fast, gather data, and quickly discover what actually works for your writing habit.
- Start with manageable writing blocks instead of assuming you can run a full cognitive marathon with six hours of writing in one day.
- Break writing into layers.Â
- At 30,000 feet overview, you are spinning the writing plate.Â
- At 10,000 feet overview, you are learning, researching, networking, and writing.Â
- On the ground you schedule specific tasks.
- Build a weekly attention budget for writing. Spend time on admin, learning the craft, mentorship, and writing words on the page so the system supports your long term writing habit.
- Protect your highest energy hours for real writing. Put words on the page when your focus is strongest and move learning or conversations into lower energy parts of the day.
- Treat failure as system feedback, not identity failure. The faster you get feedback, the faster you can iterate and find something that works for you.
