Title: Trust, But Verify Part 1

Text: II Peter 1:3-7

FCF: We often struggle living out what we believe without undermining it.

Prop: Because God has given all His dear children all they need to be what He has called them to be, we must trust His promises by growing toward His call.

Last week we only made it through the first two verses of this letter. And they were quite powerful verses. Peter highlighted the sovereignty of God in giving us faith through the righteousness of Christ. He then asked for grace and peace to be lavished on his audience as they grow in the knowledge of God.

We talked about how the knowledge of God can be summed up in three words all beginning with the letter H.

Head – exploring God deeply

Heart – delighting in God only

Hands – obeying God carefully

Our knowledge of God then, is not an academic knowledge. Our knowledge of God is not feelings or emotional. Our knowledge of God is not duty. Rather it is the sum total of our being. Indeed, to know Him is to love Him. To love Him is to obey Him. To obey Him is to make His name known. And to make His name known is to glorify Him.

This is, essentially, our church motto. To know Him and to make Him known… and everything in between.

Today, Peter will build on that. The true thought of what he writes probably goes through verse 11. However, for your sake, I didn’t feel I could pack all that into one sermon. So we will divide this one sermon into two. You’re welcome
