Hey what’s up everybody, this is Karim Amri. Welcome to Coaching Secrets Podcast.
It’s been always challenging and difficult for me whenever I was listening to someone giving a speech about how procrastination is the worst thing , procrastination is a sign or irresponsibility, procrastination show less professionalism, and less care.
Until one day I was reading a book, that highlighted the benefits of procrastination, in fact the author went further, and consider procrastinators as gifted people who can manage many thought and process many ideas at the same time, so they decide to prioritize some and delay others when it comes to action.
After reading more on the subject and exploring the concept from different angles, I simply get some self-satisfaction and got comfort when I procrastinate something, as at the end, it’s not that bad as they taught us before.
Same as the negative side of delaying doing things, there’s also some positive side of it, especially when we delay doing something, because we’re doing something else more important, or when we delay finishing something because we need to give enough time for thinking and researching, we can also delay doing something because we’re looking for the best place to do it at it’s best.
I’m talking today about this important belief because it’s not only related to us, when it comes to decision, actions, and commitments we’re engaged in, but also when it comes to the assignments, and agreed actions by our coaching clients.
Whether we like it or not, this is one of the most challenges that we coaches are facing, not doing the action agreed in the previous session, or not sending the session preparation before coming to the session, or not updating the actions log sheet. These are very common things, especially when we’re dealing in corporate coaching.
And as a coach we need to be open and flexible, since we believe that there’s a positive intention behind any behaviour, so it’s recommended, if the same delays and non-completion of action is happening to explore with the client the best ways , and how we can help him comply to the commitment.
This is not about you as a coach. We’re in a partnership with the client to help him achieve his goal to the maximum, so being flexible is key and partnering with the coachee to identify the best way to get actions done is the bets way to honor this partnership.
Thank you all for listening, that’s all for today, keep growing and buy for now.
