Long ago, taking a photo was an active process. The photographer had to set up, the subject had to pose, and everyone had to remain still. Even after the shots were taken, no one could say for sure if they were any good until the film was developed. Taking pictures took days. Today, snapping a picture takes less than a second, thanks to incredible advancements in mobile photography. What’s more, advanced camera systems come replete with a variety of sensors and radios – wrapped in what we call a smartphone – allowing anyone to review, edit, and share their snaps instantly. Images are traded like currency. In this episode, we look at how far photography, and the stories those pictures tell, have come – from specialized service, to everyday occurrence.
