Eusebia “Chappy” Rios spent 33 years in the United States Air Force, but her story didn’t begin with plans for a military career. When college wasn’t financially possible, the Air Force became Plan B — and that decision changed the course of her life.

Chappy started as an Airman Basic in the Dental Corps, eventually working in oral surgery, dental forensics, post-mortem identification during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and research involving HIV/AIDS, oral pathology, synthetic bone, and dental disease.

She climbed the enlisted ranks from E-1 to E-6, but along the way, another calling kept pulling at her — ministry.

In Part 1, Chappy shares the journey from enlisted Airman to commissioned officer and Air Force chaplain, and what it means to “be a chaplain to all and a pastor to a few.”
